Stian Eckhoff, born on 3 September 1979 in Trondheim, a Norwegian biathlete.
Stian Carstensen (born 1971) in Eidsvoll) is a musical virtuoso instrument.
It started like an accordion at the age of 9. He learned from his father, and after a classical player he attended for 4 years. During this time he played on Norwegian television, radio, festivals, etc. Also toured America, playing classical music. At the same time was also in the jazz swing, and his father, who also played bass, played standard tunes with him.
When he was 15 he started playing electric guitar in a rock band. After a time he began to regain interest in jazz again, and formed a trio with some local artists. He lived as a freelancer or less a year and then began to study at the conservatory in Trondheim, in the department of jazz guitar as lead instrument. During his two years of study in Trondheim (91-93) formed the Farmers Market group. Farmers Market was originally free jazz quintet, until one day he found a note with a Bulgarian folk song 11/16. This was a great experience for kids, and that practice day and night to play this music asymmetric.
After a while Stian bought a ticket to Bulgaria and around the villages was there to collect, and study popular music there. The result of the tour was a live album with singers and musicians from the famous "Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares," recorded in Molde international jazz festival in Norway. After this Stian was totally devoted to Bulgarian music. He traveled a lot with musicians from Bulgaria, and Romania, and I learned a lot from them.
Besides being dedicated to this type of music, he also took classes in composition, he learned to play 5-string banjo style bluegrass, played with several jazz groups (be-bop, and experimental) with Jon Christensen and Bendik Hofseth name a few.
Farmers Market at 97 made her second album with saxophonist Trifon Trifonov Bulgaria. This was an extreme album with elements of many different styles and ideas from bluegrass in odd meters, to Metallica as versions of traditional melodies Balkans, and slick commercial music mixed with Stockhausen. The album is very good Rewiews many contemporary music magazines as well as rock, folk and jazz magazines in Europe.
In 1998 he was invited to write music for a festival in Norway; Vossajazz. He wrote some music and formed a group of fellow Jarle Vespestad (one of the most talented young drummers in Norway, which also plays at Farmers Market), Django Bates, of England, and Ernst Reijseger Netherlands. The music was made in April 98, with a great success. The choice of musicians was made by a careful hand, because each of them had one thing in common: were in a lot of styles together. The music was composed in a contemporary spirit, but elements in many different styles without being artificial.
This seems to be a milestone in the career of the SC and has been working hard with the group after this. Another highlight was the launch of the new record in the Farmers Market German label Winter & Winter, he toured Europe and Japan with the band in 2000. Rewiews are very good both on the disc and the concert in magazines like The Wire, Rolling Stone, etc. Farmers Market this year played the biggest festival in the worlds of jazz, the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague, Netherlands.
He also Playa with Dutch cellist Ernst Reijseger. They work as a duo playing myself and writes the content in various popular styles of improvisation.
Last year we studied the Bulgaria Bulgarian polyphony, and rural America Afro-Celtic music in Appalachia, in a position in the cultural department of Norway. He is currently rates two years in the state to study the traditional Bulgarian music. Its instruments include accordion, kaval (Bulgarian flute), bagpipes, guitar, violin, mandolin and banjo.
